Xfloat and BASF Collaboration Expands Floating Solar Reach

Floating solar panels powered by Xfloat and BASF collaboration

Xfloat Ltd. has joined forces with BASF to enhance the durability and sustainability of floating solar systems. The Xfloat and BASF collaboration merges cutting-edge solar design with advanced chemical stabilization technologies, creating clean energy solutions designed to last for decades. This partnership addresses the growing need for reliable renewable energy while maintaining environmental safety and operational efficiency.

At the core of this collaboration is BASF’s Tinuvin® 2730 ED, a proprietary light stabilizer that protects HDPE floats from UV degradation and environmental stresses. Incorporating this stabilizer into its floats, Xfloat has extended system lifespans to over 30 years. This durability matches solar modules’ lifespan, lowers maintenance costs, and reduces the overall cost of electricity.

Avi Alcalay, Chief Technology Officer at Xfloat, emphasized that the company aims to redefine floating solar technology by integrating intelligent design with environmental responsibility. He noted that BASF’s stabilizers meet strict safety standards, and the Xfloat and BASF collaboration ensures regulatory compliance.

The partnership is already delivering measurable results globally. Xfloat’s technology has been implemented across the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. A recent deployment in Singapore demonstrated a remarkable 28 percent increase in energy yield using Xfloat’s proprietary FPV-T sun-tracking system. Rising global demand for renewable energy is prompting the Xfloat and BASF collaboration to expand floating solar deployment.

Ricard Vandellos, VP of Plastic Additives at BASF, highlighted the key role of material innovation in renewable energy. He noted that combining intelligent solar design with advanced chemical stabilizers delivers certified, long-lasting solutions for floating solar applications. The collaboration exemplifies this synergy, reflecting emerging floating solar panels trends that prioritize durability, efficiency, and environmental safety. This approach ensures systems remain resilient and capable of performing efficiently even under challenging conditions.

Beyond technology, this partnership reflects BASF’s broader VALERAS® portfolio, which focuses on safe, durable, and sustainable solutions. By combining Xfloat’s floating solar platforms with BASF’s stabilizers, the collaboration enables deployment in sensitive environments. The Xfloat and BASF collaboration thus not only advances solar technology but also builds trust in the long-term reliability of renewable energy infrastructures.

BASF, a global leader in plastic additives, continues to expand its offerings to enhance sustainability. In addition, its products improve material resistance to heat and light, while also reducing environmental impact and optimizing industrial processing. Moreover, in 2024, BASF recorded sales of €65.3 billion, further highlighting the company’s global scale and commitment to innovation in sustainable solutions.

Together, Xfloat and BASF are setting new benchmarks in floating solar technology. Indeed, their strategic partnership demonstrates that solar energy can be captured efficiently, safely, and sustainably. By combining innovation, durability, and environmental responsibility, the Xfloat and BASF collaboration is therefore paving the way for more resilient floating solar systems and ultimately a cleaner, more sustainable future.
